WHAT DOES CUPPING DO?

  • Cupping increases blood circulation to the area where the cups are placed.

  • Relieves muscle tension, which can improve overall blood flow and promote cell repair

  • Reduces inflammation; Increases blood flow; Supports relaxation; Is an alternative to deep tissue massage; Helps with pain management

  • Cupping removes toxins and improves blood flow through the veins and arteries.

  • Especially useful for athletes is cupping’s potential to relieve muscle spasms.

THE DARK MARKS:

  • Anyone who is concerned about cupping therapy because of the potential marks should be aware that they will go away. Also, not everyone develops dark red or purple marks.

  • Those that do typically are eliminating a lot of toxins from the body or have poor circulation in that particular area. The healthier a person is, the fainter the marks will be.

  • Although this is generally what happens it is important to understand that each person will react slightly differently.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN WHEN CUPPING MARKS TURN PURPLE?

Marks that are deep purple, black or blue indicate blood stagnation in the area. This means that an injury or illness has resided in the area for a long time and the body has yet to full clear the stagnation.

WHAT DO CUPPING BRUISES MEAN?

It's important to understand that the red circular marks left behind by the cups are NOT BRUISES. They very rarely hurt (unless the muscles is injured). Bruises are caused by impact trauma that breaks capillaries in the injured area. But there is NO compression or impact trauma when cupping is done correctly

It is common for cupping to leave distinctive small, circular bruises on the areas where the cups were applied and it is usually painless. These cupping marks are discoloration of the skin due to broken blood vessels just beneath the skin, much like a bruise.

This indicates the level of blood and Qi stagnation, toxin accumulation, or dampness accumulation in your body. The color and pattern of the marks reflect the level of stagnation in that area.

HOW LONG DO THE MARKS LAST?

How long do cupping bruises last? The bruises for cupping can last for a few days up to two weeks. According to TCM practitioner Casco, it is expected that over several weeks of repeated cupping treatments the bruising will decrease as the stagnation resolves..

HOW OFTER SHOULD I DO CUPPING?

The full benefits of cupping therapy are usually achieved after between 5 and 10 visits. Sometimes the benefits are noticed immediately but are short lived, in particular when dealing with emotional complaints or longstanding chronic problems. Ten sessions are considered to be one course of treatment.

DOES CUPPING HELP WITH KNOTS?

When the skin is oiled and the cups either glided or applied, then are removed, this technique removes knots and provides relief from inflammation.

DOES CUPPING ENCOURAGE TISSUES TO RELEASE TOXINS?

Cupping gives your body a boost in releasing those toxins. Focused blood flow helps your body by flushing built-up toxins through the lymphatic system. (Your lymphatic system is responsible for eliminating your body's toxins and waste.)

WHAT TOXINS DOES CUPPING RELEASE?

Blood vessels in the treated areas by cupping are dilated by release of vasodilators such as adenosine, noradrenaline, and histamine, which lead to increased blood circulation.

DOES CUPPING INCREASE BLOOD CIRCULATION?

Yes

WHO SHOULD NOT RECIEVE CUPPING?

Extra caution should be taken for the following groups:

  • Children. Children under 4 years old shouldn't receive cupping therapy.

  • Seniors. Their skin becomes more fragile as we age.

  • Pregnant people. Avoid cupping the abdomen and lower back.

  • Those who are currently menstruating.

HOW DO YOU GET RID OF CUPPING BRUISES?

The discolorations are related to your body's health at the time of cupping. If you'd like those marks to go away faster, do two things: hydrate and rest. Everyone's body responds differently to cupping.
